Last week, President Obama posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the first African American woman elected to Congress, the Honorable Shirley Chisholm. Congresswoman Chisholm was also the first African American woman candidate to make a bid for the U.S. presidency when she ran for the Democratic nomination in 1972.
I have always been inspired and admired Congresswoman Chisholm. Recognizing her birthday on this date November 30th and reflecting on her words, “You don’t make progress on the sidelines whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.” #unboughtandunbossed
